Small Business Shipping News: USPS Rate Changes
Exciting changes are afoot in the New Year that will help web stores and small businesses lower their shipping costs and improve efficiency.
Starting today, the U.S. Postal Service will change its pricing for Commercial Plus and Commercial Base customers on services like Priority Mail, Express Mail and most International Mail classes.
Commercial Plus customers get:
- Lower volume thresholds for discounted pricing on Priority Mail and Express Mail
- Critical Mail service--a fast, in-transit service for time-sensitive documents such as event tickets, identification cards, and high-value direct mail pieces. Includes free Delivery Confirmation service.
Commercial Base and Commercial Plus customers get:
- New regional Priority Mail boxes ideal for local shipments of small, but heavy items.
- Cost-effective, zone-based pricing regardless of weight (maximum weight limits apply)
- Available in two sizes (each with front- and side-loading capability), holding up to 15 and 20 pounds, respectively
- An expanded selection of Priority Mail envelopes eligible for flat rate envelope pricing
- A new legal flat rate Express Mail envelope
Meanwhile, the price of a First-Class Mail stamp remains $0.44, at least for the time being.
There are also changes going into effect for Parcel Select, Global Express Guaranteed, Express Mail International, and Priority Mail International.
