PayPal Payments Pro Configuration

Setting up PayPalPayments Pro (formerly known as PayPal Website Payments Pro) in your store is fairly straight forward within the ProStores admin area. Unfortunately, we have seen some confusion by merchants when they go to their PayPal account to find the necessary credentials. PayPal provides a couple different options for connecting an eCommerce site to Website Payments Pro

The following video provides a visual walk-through of the process of finding your PayPal Payments Pro credentials and updating the configuration settings in your ProStores store.

eCommerce Payment Processing - Credit Card Processing Overview

If you already process credit cards in your brick-and-mortar store or over the phone, then you probably already have a merchant account. Check with your bank or merchant account provider to see if your current account supports internet payment processing.

Once you’ve added internet payment processing to your current merchant account or found a separate internet merchant account provider, you’ll need to add an online payment processor.

ProStores is integrated with a number of the most popular online payment processors – also called gateways. Using one of these processors saves you the time or cost to do the programming necessary to integrate a gateway. We’ve done all that hard work for you.

Another option is to use an all-in-one merchant account and gateway solution like PayPal Payments Pro or Quickbooks Merchant Service – both of which are also integrated with ProStores.

PayPal offers another way to process credit cards called PayPal Payments Standard. This is the default payment method enabled on ProStores – all you need to do is add the email address associated with your PayPal account and set up your PayPal preferences in ProStores and PayPal will then process your customers’ credit card or PayPal payments on their site. The trade-off is that the customer is taken off of your site to complete payment before they are returned to your store to complete checkout.

So, while you probably want to set up one of the methods above to process credit cards on your store in real time, offering PayPal as an additional form of payment has been shown to boost sales by up to 14%.*

Probably the main drivers of which solution makes the most sense for you are fees and convenience.

If you already have a merchant account and are doing a good volume of business – simply adding an online payment processor is probably your most cost-effective option.

If you are just starting to sell through your own web store and have an established online business – perhaps on eBay – an all-in-one solution, such as PayPal Payments Pro, is a great way to start accepting cards on your store and enhance the professional image that having your own store gives you.

And if you’re just starting out online, PayPal Payments Standard offers your customers a fast, safe, easy way to pay you – and offers you a no-monthly-fee option.

You can compare the costs of these various solutions with this handy calculator from PayPal.

Whichever solution you decide to use, ProStores offers the convenience of integrated setup for you and safe, secure payment processing to your customers.

PayPal Payment Solutions

If you do not already have a merchant account and want to accept credit cards online, you can sign up for PayPal Payments Pro. PayPal Payments Pro is an all-in one payment solution that offers all the features of a merchant account and a payment gateway through a single provider. ProStores is integrated with PayPal Website Payments Pro, which makes it easy to apply for and configure the PayPal merchant services program to accept credit card payment on your own website. With Payments Pro, you also control the checkout process for your customers from beginning to end.

ProStores is also integrated with PayPal Payments Standard. With Standard, your customers can pay with credit card or with PayPal by checking out on PayPal's site.

If you already have a merchant account and just need a compatible payment gateway, ProStores is fully integrated with Payflow Pro. Payflow Pro is a fully customizable payment gateway solution that lets your customers complete credit card transactions on your own website more securely.

PayPal as a payment option

Along with accepting credit cards, ProStores merchants also can offer PayPal as an additional payment option by enabling PayPal Express Checkout. With PayPal as a payment option, merchants can increase sales by an average of 14% and get new customers. PayPal Express Checkout is automatically included when a merchant signs up for Payments Pro and is also tightly integrated with a merchant's ProStores web store. Alternatively, merchants can enable Express Checkout by itself. When a customer places an order and chooses to pay using PayPal, they are transferred to PayPal, where their shipping and billing information is already securely stored. The customer then confirms this information for payment and is transferred back to the merchant site, without having to re-enter the same information to complete the order.

Verify PayPal Standard Payments Account Settings

Accept paypal payments easily - verify the Selling Preferences in your PayPal account profile are in alignment with your settings in your ProStores web store for optimal support of PayPal Standard payments through your ProStores web store.

Sales Tax and Shipping Calculations:

Disable sales tax and shipping calculations in your PayPal profile.  ProStores calculates sales tax and shipping based on the settings in ProStores.  If sales tax or shipping calculations are also configured as a Selling Preference in PayPal, those values are added to the ProStores transaction.  The modified transaction value will prevent ProStores from recognizing the completed transaction and the invoice will remain in a ‘Pending’ status in ProStores until manually moved.

Payment Receiving Preferences:

Are you blocking payments with your Payment Receiving Preferences settings?
     - Block payments sent to me in a currency I do not hold
     - Block eCheck payments
     - Block payments from U.S. users who do not provide a Confirmed Address:
     - Block payments from users who Have non-U.S. PayPal accounts

If you are, you may want to consider adding content to your web store so shoppers understand your requirements before selecting PayPal Standard as a payment method.  This may reduce checkout frustration some shoppers may experience when trying to complete the transaction on the PayPal site after completing the process on your ProStores web store.
